Homework

For homework Year 5 had the task of turning their spelling words into a tongue twister. Here is what we came up with...

Can you say them without making a mistake?

Levi -
While two witches
were watching
two watches,
Which witch,
would watch,
which watch?

Molly-May -
Another brother thought he bought another brother's friend to the end, around the bend.

Year 5 Home Learning

Home-Learning this week and from now on will be starting to get a bit more challenging. The spelling will be words that children can start using in their writing and they also will be starting to link to our grammar sessions in class.

If you are looking to extend your child’s learning, please look on our blog as there are some useful links that can be used for all subject areas. Another website that I found useful is - BBC Bitesize KS2 – There are Reading, Writing, Grammar/Spelling and Maths games, quizzes and information about different strategies that children can use for certain subject areas.

Home Learning - Y4
Home learning this year focuses on the basics, reading, tables, maths and some spelling. Home Learning will go home on a Monday and the children have two weeks to complete. They will need to return their Home Learning on Thursday of the following week.  (If it is easier to return weekly, I can change it). The children can also refer to the maths activities on our blog and  Spelling City which is also on the blog.
Here is what will be coming home:
  • Home Reading Diary/Library Books/Workshop Readers
  • Times Tables Worksheets
  • Maths sheets which can be done daily over the two weeks (or whenever it suits your child's routines)
  • Ten Spelling words (which will be in their red notebook).
For a little bit of extra encouragement to complete their Home Learning, and return it on time, we have chance cards and their DOJO'S ( which are proving very popular).
Any problems please email me or call in and have a chat.
Take Care and God Bless

Home Learning – Y5
Home learning this year will be reading, spelling and times tables. I have kept it very basic, as children already have after school commitments be it sport, music, art or extra tutoring.

Depending on what we have going on this year, there maybe weeks where children won’t get a list of spelling or times tables. In saying this, this does not stop you from using our Teaching and Learning Site to further your child’s learning.

Every Friday children will receive a list of spelling and times tables and their reading should be a book of their choice. I encourage them on the Friday - when we do go to the library - to choose chapter books at the level they can read. However if they have books at home that they are reading with or without you then that’s superb!

The message I am trying to get across to the class this year, is that reading is a pleasure and not a chore!

I am also encouraging children who speak English as their second language, to read books in their language and culture. I think it is extremely important and such an awesome thing to be able to do!

Homework is sent out on a Friday, they do not have to do homework over the weekend, but it is expected that homework is done during the week. I will then collect homework sheets on a Friday morning as Friday afternoon I will be testing the children.

Chance Cards and Merit Stamps up for grabs for children who complete their work. [Parents, ask your child about this, they know what this means :-)].

Warm Regards,

Steph O'Malley

Write a descriptive piece of writing from the perspective of the cat or 'Pinkie'. Use descriptive language and use the five senses to help you paint a picture for the reader.
